A diverse, fun and challenging curriculum
“Playtime is precious. Play builds brain pathways for thinking, creatively, flexibility, empathy and many other lifelong skills”
– Heather Shumaker
At Aurora Early Education, we give your child all the time she or he needs to learn in a caring, friendly and fun space. Our Love & Play philosophy means all children are treated with respect and given attention at every moment of the day.
Our curriculum is firmly based in the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VELDF) and the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), both of which guide educators on the optimum ways children learn and develop. They outline five key Learning Outcomes that help get your child school ready.
At the end of their time at Aurora, children should:
- Have a strong sense of identity
- Be connected with and contribute to their world
- Have a strong sense of wellbeing
- Be confident and involved learners
- Be effective communicators.
The Aurora Way
At any given moment at Aurora, you’ll see children and educators working, playing and learning together in a stimulating, exciting environment. It’s intentional teaching strategy at it’s best.
Our curriculum isn’t a set of things to do but a fluid program that responds to the children’s day-to-day needs and interests. It’s based on carefully guided, purposeful play – educators might play with the children or watch and assess the learning taking place, scaffolding their learning and development to help them new ways of doing things and thinking about the world.
Our educators are always in control of the program. We prepare and set the learning environment so it becomes an integral part of teaching. We guide your child to play and learn while still responding to their individual lead, treating them as an individual and interacting with them respectfully at all times.
We encourage children to reflect, theorise, hypothesise and try out different ideas. We interact with them in meaningful ways, knowing that this kind of meaningful interaction with adults sets them up for success in later life. We carefully monitor their language and encourage them to express themselves as their vocabulary expands.
Each day has scheduled quiet times, group learning times and lengthy periods of uninterrupted play. Children and educators come together to share meals and discuss what they have been doing together.
Our guiding principles
We create our stimulating learning experiences within a set of guiding principles based on VEYLDF Learning Outcomes. These principles include:
Our studio programs
Seamist studio – For early learners aged 0- to 3 years
Designed for the littlest ones in our care, the SeaMist studio caters for babies and toddlers with a special education and play curriculum designed to encourage their natural curiosity.
Moonglade studio – Pre-kinder for children aged 3- to 4 years
At Aurora we offer a comprehensive program in our Moonglade Studio. In our pre-kindergarten program there is a strong focus on social, physical and emotional development.
Willow-Walk studio – Kindergarten for children aged 4- to 6 years
At Aurora, our Kindergarten room offers a rhythmic routine and structure to each day. Each session allows for whole group discussions and explorations of concepts and then children.
