Learning Independence at Seamist Studio

As part of their routine, the children in Seamist are encouraged to participate in self help practices throughout the day. After the children wake up from their afternoon sleeps, they are guided to open their bed boxes (a small plastic box with their name and photo on it that they place their clothes into while taking a nap), encouraged to dress themselves and help pack up their sheets to put away for the next day.

The children are also supported to practice self help skills such as blowing their nose, wiping their mouths and washing their hands.

Some of the older children in the room have started being able to put their socks and shoes on by themselves; after their nap and throughout the day when engaging in sand play and other Sensory Experiences.

It is fantastic to see the children taking ownership of addressing their needs and Developing Their Skills. With more practice their confidence in their ability will grow!
