Gardening is a simple soul-nourishing activity that perfectly embodies our three core values – connect, care and create. That’s why we’ve seamlessly incorporated dedicated gardening spaces at our three Aurora Early Learning Centres. Read about our core values below –

  • Connect ~ When we connect to the earth and plants we are connecting to ourselves, the seasons and the cycles of life.
  • Care – Caring for our earth from a young age means we are raising a generation who will soon become carers of our beautiful planet.
  • Create ~ Creating in nature is a beautiful artistic practice that combines many physical skills and cognitive exercises. It allows us to test out colour combinations, patterns and symmetry.

Reflect: Did you garden as a child? How did it make you feel?

If you’re looking to get your hands dirty and plant your own edible garden, Melbourne Bushfood is an amazing local company that sells, educates and shares amazing resources to create a thriving ecosystem in your backyard.

We understand that not everyone has the space to create their own garden, however, it’s amazing what you can simply grow in pots on your balcony or even kitchen bench!

Some simple herbs to get started with might be:

  • Parsley
  • Thyme
  • Basil
  • Chives
  • Tomatoes (not a herb but very easy to grow in a range of conditions as it is a hardy plant)

Did you know that getting your hands dirty with good microbes from the soil can even improve our gut microbiome? Having a good gut microbiome is important to stay protected against pathogens, disease and even mental health conditions. There’s even a particular bacteria that is serotonergic, meaning it can affect the release of serotonin (the happy hormone) in our body. Read all about it here:

We’re passionate about giving children the best gift in life by teaching them a range of skills that can be applied in many future life endeavours. Whilst parenting can feel exhausting sometimes and like you might “have to know it all” to be a good parent, it truly takes a village to raise a child. You’re doing a great job. Even by just reading this blog you’re curious to give your child the best experience in life. We see you, we hear you and we are here to support you and your family.
